When it's time for you to come in for your transplant, the process varies depending on the type of transplant. It also depends on whether or not you are receiving an organ from a living donor or a deceased donor.
If you are receiving an organ from a living donor, the surgery date will be scheduled ahead of time. If are are receiving an organ from a deceased donor, you will get a call when an organ becomes available. You will need to be ready to come to the hospital as soon as possible after you receive that call (usually within an hour or two).
If you are an adult patient, you will come to University of Minnesota Medical Center. If your child is coming in for transplant, you will bring him or her to Minnesota Children's Amplatz Children's Hospital. Both are located at 500 Harvard Street in Minneapolis.
